Was ephemera the "good guy" of the story? Have you ever thought we are judging by apperence only (and by this slughead-kagan she chose for an ally) and miss the fact that her plan was actually good for nature?
Man is just a specie of the earth. And yet we have managed do to some serious harm, and behave to land like it ours by default (exploit it, polute it, exterminate other species e.t.c.)
Cities like the one she destroyed, are mistakes made by man. Overpopulated places, that consume extraordinary amount of energy, produce lots of polution, with lots of inequalities betwen the social levels e.t.c. Reducing the population of such a city was a gift to nature according to me.
Needless to say i think the player was on the wrong side during the whole game
Extra tip: If you load the start of level 6 and wait without pressing anything, you will hear rayne herself saying something like "humans deserve a lot better that this". Then, if they deserve it, why dont you just let them suffer it and let the vampire dawn happen, huh? It doesn't make much sense, does it?

Well, Agent Smith, maybe human beings are a disease, but the vampires' plan for taking over wasn't very ecofriendly either. The Shroud they were using to do it blocked out the sun, polluted the atmosphere, and killed animals and plants. In addition, the heavy machinery they use probably generates a lot of carbon dioxide emissions and releases other harmful waste gases into the air. The influx of greenhouse gases combined with a reduction in oxygen production from the killing of plants would eventually create environmental conditions unable to sustain life. Finally, the introduction of several non-indigenous carnivorous species into the local ecosystem would create a disruption in the food chain. If anything, the vampires seem to be destroying the environment even more rapidly than the human population was.
And also I just don't really think Ephemera had helping the environment in mind when she set out to conquer the city.

Well you do pose the position of a devil's advocate. (Sorry, no puns here.)
One could state that in the storyline, Kagan is the father to all soo the daughters including Rayne Should be good daughters and follow their father's needs.
In most stories about vamps, the children at some time do kill their sire. So they will receive their sire's power and strength.
Sooo now a question of morals. Rayne feels her bloodlust to advenge her mother is just. Some simply want the power. Other's for the pure enjoyment.
What would you do?

BloodRayne
Operated on the PC and PS2 formats.
I want 2 Rayne action-figures. One the size of a Barbie doll and one life-sized to go with me on long drives.

you make a good point! i hadnt thought of it at all. hm.... well i wouldnt say that Ephemera was a good guy because the ultimate plan was to spread the shroud to the whole world and the apocalypse would spread global so that wouldnt be so good because it would kill the whole human race also if you watch the movie sequence you see a scene where a tree withers and dies and there is fire everywhere. all the animals mutated and many died and all the plants in the background were sickely or dead so it wasnt completely good for nature but i do think you bring up a good point
it really makes you step back and look at who is 'good' and 'bad' and also our real life affect on the nature around us and the future we're headed twords.

i think this whole Shrouding plan had a major flaw
shroud the earth and block the sunlight ..ok
breed human bloodsacks for survival (cuz apparently most life forms will die out w/o the sun) ..ok
but what about the "predatory nature" of vampires?
i mean they have to hunt and/or to seduce (in case of humans) their prey in order to get food and/or satisfaction
i think being immortal means you get bored in the long run and without prey to hunt even faster
in my opinion ephemera wasn't the "good gal in a bad game"
her meddling with severin years before is an indicator that her "evil nature" as dhampir was dominating her throughout every period of time
although most of it might be encouraged by kagan's tutelage

I thought that too; did Xerxes have a plan, or was he just driven by Kagan's will? What was this new empire supposed to do with a dying ecosystem, eventually leading to the death or at least extreme malnutrition of humanity? Was this just temporary for the sake of conquest, or did they expect the synthetic blood to become their source of sustenance without long-term testing to see if there were adverse side effects?
Morality aside, I don't think Ephemera was anything other than Daddy's lieutenant, and he didn't exactly have the best interest of humanity at heart. I'm not even sure Kagan had the foresight to look over his own best interests.
